Here is a picture of the Chinese character for love. The traditional Chinese character is shown; there is also a simplified Chinese symbol for love that has been around for a half-century or so when the communist government changed the characters to make them more efficient.

The part in purple is what's different between the traditional and the simplified Chinese characters. It happens that the purple symbol stands for heart; so you could say that the communists took the heart out of love, comrades!
